Runrig "Once in a lifetime you live and love
once in a lifetime you die
once in a moment the sun goes down
protect and survive"
- by Calum Macdonald
Runrig in 1990 The group on the left is Runrig, the best band to come out of Scotland. Their music can best be described as traditional Scottish folk music with a rock influence, and mostly written by Calum and Rory Macdonald, the two brothers in the group.   This photo is of the band in 1990, when I first started enjoying their music. The lead singer, Donnie Munro (the handsome one third from the left) left a couple of years ago to pursue a solo career and try his hand in politics. His place was taken by Canadian, Bruce Guthro who has a strong voice but lacking the clarity and beauty of Donnie's. I'm afraid Runrig weren't the same for me after that but they still come up with some great songs.

Pete Wishart, on the left, is also an ex member now, being a full time Member of Parliament for the SNP.

For more info on this great band visit the official Runrig site.

Leonard Cohen

Canadian song writer, singer, novelist and poet, born Leonard Norman Cohen in Montreal in 1934. Some say you have to be mad to enjoy the music of Leonard Cohen, some say you'll go mad if you listen to the music of Leonard Cohen. His melancholic voice and strange lyrics are certainly an acquired taste but I find him very relaxing and peaceful. Favourite tracks include 'The Stranger Song', 'Bird on the Wire' and 'The Partisan'. But I must admit I can't make head nor tail of his poems or novels - I think it's mainly the music and his hypnotising voice which I love.
